PG Diploma in Yoga (500 Hours)

500 hour yoga teacher training is designed based on Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga organized by affiliated yoga schools of Arunayoga is soon to be registered with Yoga Alliance, USA – RYS 200 and 300. The school can help you to effectively master your yoga learning, teaching and personal practice in order for you to grow as an inspiring yoga teacher who can be a light to students seeking spiritual enlightenment through the practice of this centuries old tradition.

500-hour yoga teacher training is structured to advance and reinforce your basic learning and practice of yoga. You will be instructed in the teaching methodology for Asana (physical postures), pranayama (breath control) and dhyana (meditation). Classes in these three and other fields will build on your existing skills in the various postures, pranayama and meditation techniques which will be a step forward in you becoming a registered yoga teacher. As a yoga teacher you will need specific advanced skills and so the 500 hour YTT is designed to fulfill those needs.

An in-depth study of Yog Sutra and Vedanta will enable you to enhance your knowledge and understanding of the philosophy and practice of yoga. You will be taught to identify body types and capacity of the individuals to adopt yogic practice.

Human anatomy and physiology and its correlation to yogic practices, mantra chanting and principles of swara yoga are other areas where you will be able to sharpen and polish your skills as required by a teacher.

One other important aspect that is covered in the course is the study of ethical guidelines that a yoga teacher must accomplish in order to maintain a better student-teacher relationship.

Daily Schedule

Chanting and pranayama are also part of the schedule. During training you are provided with two to three yoga meals and fruit refreshments. Daily written homework is also the norm as that is how you will gain in-depth knowledge of the subject. Sleeping early is encouraged as that is part of yogic practice.

Yoga Therapy:
Yoga asanas can help with the recovery and management of many common diseases and disorders. This class will provide students with an introduction to the anatomy and pathology of common health issues that diet, asana, and pranayama practice can ameliorate.

Asana:
Yogic postures comprise three hours of the daily schedule. Morning asana classes focus on those asanas related to yoga therapy, whereas evening asanas provide students a class model they will later teach to 200 hour TTC students. From the third week, students will begin practicing a modified Ashtanga Yoga sequence.

Yoga Anatomy:
Students will learn anatomy and physiology relevant to yoga in order to strengthen their classroom explanations, cues, and corrections of asana. Philosophy: This class will prepare students to read and understand Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Each Friday, students will lead a discussion reflecting on the week’s readings. Before class, students should write down one question on a notecard directly related to the day’s reading and give this to the teacher at the start of class.

Pranayama, Yogic Breathing, Yoga Nidra & Chanting: Students will learn techniques to open vital energy centers in the body with a goal of becoming proficient enough to teach these skills to their students. Practical teaching experience will begin from the second week.
